I thought since I have been addicted to music since I was a kid I would add a feature here that will allow me to reflect on the favourite music through out my life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I saved this one for #13 because it is my favorite number. This guys are my first favorite band. I say first favorite because the other band that is my favorite of all time, I didn't discover until I was 18 (they'll come later).
Depeche Mode are an English electronic music band formed in 1980. I discovered them when Much Music (Canada's MTV) came along in the early 80s. The first time I saw the video for People Are People (1884). I knew this was for me.
"People Are People"
Some Great Reward, was to me a great reward. With songs like Master and Servant, Blasphemous Rumours, and Somebody.
When I got married in 1995, our wedding song, the first song we danced to was "Somebody" by DM, although he wanted Slayer or something, so you know why we didn't stay married long. HAHA
Catching Up with Depeche Mode came next and to this day I love Shake the Disease.
By the time they release Black Celebration, I was full on totally head over heels in love with Depeche Mode. Fly on the Windscreen, to this day is to me a brilliant song, PG and I were listening to it recently in the car. I love that bass line.
"Fly on the Windscreen"
1987's Music for the Masses was to me the time of all times. On May 20th 1988, I went to my first concert (that I paid for) which was Depeche Mode (O.M.D. opened up for them). I still have the ticket stub these 20 years later.
"Strangelove"
The Violator album was the pinnacle. "Enjoy The Silence" and my all time favorite, "Policy of Truth" summed up the end of the 80s for me.
"Policy of Truth"
"Personal Jesus"
I never really cared as much for the later work they did, but those 6 years were my Depeche Mode years through and through. No other band was listened to as much by these ears during that time.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Depeche Mode! To this day, listening to the older stuff puts me in the best mood. They were the very first concert that went to (in '90, I think). If we ever get married, I want to play DM as the first song (but not Somebody - love the song - but there are bad memories from a previous relationship).
Oh and sorry I missed girls night. Sean and I had not spent any time together for weeks and we finally had a chance to that night, so I couldn't pass it up :)
