Movieboob #6: Forgetting Smart Tropic Panda
|

Years ago as a member of Spymac, I created a forum called Movieboob to talk about my love of movies with other movie lovers at the Apple related site. I thought it would be fun to add that element to The Love Blog.
Okay in my quest for hibernation I have been renting movies. Rogers Video have increased their rental fees and moved their return time to 9 PM... oh well what are we to do. It's annoying but hey.
First off a few weekends ago I had my niece sleep over so we rented a couple of movies, first up was Kung Fu Panda. I really thought it was funny and adorable. How he visualized the scroll as a cookie cracked me up. Motivation, we all have to find our motivation. Some of the lines were classic, as I quoted one in a previous post but here is another: One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.
After that we watched Journey to the Center of the Earth. I used to have a major crush on Brendan Fraser. I think at one point I had seen all his movies. In candid photos of him he is losing his hair, so I assume in the movie he has hair pieces. Anyway, this was a fun movie, good for kids and full of action and funny lines. Brendan Fraser has always been good at one liner slap stick comedy. Encino Man is still one of my favourite idiot movies.
[Sex lessons in Forgetting Sarah Marshall]
Tropic Thunder was very funny, I have to say Robert Downey Jr. is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The whole cast is priceless, I usually find Ben Stiller humorous but he can suck if the script isn't suited to him, but this one was. I also usually love Jack Black, and his drugged out character was hilarious.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army sucked. It was so boring and dragged. They clearly tried to make this more a fantasy movie, lots of characters and low grade humour, but it really was just bad.
Get Smart is a pretty funny updated version of the TV Show. Steve Carell can be hit or miss, but this one worked. I wasn't sure about Anne Hathaway, but she was really good. The movie was charming. Cute. The dance off scene was funny. Some great lines. Specially the James Bond never had to deal with rats and poop.
[Uncomfortable dinner from Forgetting Sarah Marshall]
Finally I watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall - which has become an instant favourite of mine, that is to say I LOVED this movie. I laughed so hard, it was so perfectly funny and real. Jason Segel wrote and starred in the movie as the main character Peter, and daringly did a full frontal nudity scene. I found it touching to see a break up movie from a man's point of view, showing that women cheat and break men's hearts just as equally as men do to women.
The movie is the story of a man who writes the music score to his girl friend's CSI like TV show, and after 5 years she dumps him for a rock star (who it turns out she had been sleeping with for a year). He goes to Hawaii to forget about her, but ends up in the same hotel as her and the rock star. His journey is priceless, as he comes to terms with realizing the relationship had been far from perfect. The Dracula Rock opera puppet show is hilarious and the movie is now one of my favourites.
Maybe the problem is that you broke my heart into a million pieces and so my cock doesn't want to be around you anymore! Okay? EVER! Because you know what I just realized? You're the goddamn devil!
Oh I think we all know that girl.
