RAPS: Meow Meow Meow

Autumn has certainly arrived.

Another Friday night at the Cat Sanctuary. It was pouring rain, and the kitties were pretty much all hidden inside dry spots. I stopped first in the New AIDS section, it's a little house, and everybody was pretty much inside (some were out on the covered porch) and I got to snap pictures of just about everyone.
The main entrance courtyard was empty, only a few brave kitty under sheltered spots were about. I looked out back at the back courtyard and noted the same. Everyone was cuddled up inside away from the rain.

Tiffany (the high school student doing volunteer work for school) had arrived early again this week, and was pretty much done all the feeding when I arrived. So I chatted with her, Lisa and Doug. Then the poop-scooper Shannon and her man Patrick arrived. She brought chicken for the kitties and gave me a chunk to feed to them. Them kitties love warm fresh chicken.
I snuggled kitties, I feed them chicken, I took pictures, and even played with a few with the laser pointer. Then I went home.

 [R.I.P. Mama Kumar]
Sadly RAPS often sees its kitties get old or sick, and the inevitable happens, and we say good-bye to a little fur friend. I don't always hear about it right away, but last week thanks to Neko's Blog I was informed a lovely one eyed girl named Mama Kumar, that normally resided in the McCracken House where I do my feedings, had passed on. I knew she wasn't well, as she'd been isolated in a medical cage area and we were attempting to encourage her to eat. She will be missed. R.I.P. little fur darling.

Helfer Wellness Fund
Thanks to the generosity of Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica actress) and Tara Helfer, this fund was founded to help the Richmond Animal Protection Society ensure that homeless cats can receive the medical care they need. When cats have no one to care for them, medical problems can build up. RAPS rescues many of the animals from the street, and thanks to the Helfers, these animals will receive the veterinary care they require. RAPS would like to honour the Helfers for their generous donations.

Please check out the blog about the Helfer Wellness Fund, and for stories about the cats they have helped, like Fergus (pictured above).

Richmond Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is a registered charity that operates two shelters in the City of Richmond, British Columbia. The first shelter, on No. 6 Road in Richmond, is North America's largest cat sanctuary. At this shelter homeless and abandoned cats and kittens are rescued and cared for. Most of these beautiful animals would have otherwise faced starvation, injury, disease and an early death due to the many hazards in their environment. The cat sanctuary is currently home to more than 800 animals. The second shelter is the City of Richmond Animal Shelter, which RAPS have operated since February 2007. In 2006, RAPS bid for and was awarded the city contract to take over operation of this shelter. By expanding to a second facility, RAPS now cares for a wider variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and other small domestic animals. In addition, the RAPS City Shelter runs a comprehensive adoption program to find the animals at this facility a safe and loving home.

I have made a personal pledge page to collect donations for RAPS. I hope to raise money for the charity through this blog. I have all ready donated, and donate monthly. You can set up monthly donations through CanadaHelps or do a one time gift. You can always pick one specific cat at the shelter to sponsor as well, there is a sponsor program (info available on their web site). If you are interested in adopting an animal, please contact RAPS directly.
Every bit helps.♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
